Brittany Volpei, LCSW

Franklin, Tennessee, grief, anxiety, and depression therapist

Being human is hard—and somehow, we do it. We get by. We get by, even when life feels messy, heavy, or confusing. Sometimes we’re just surviving, not truly thriving.

I was drawn to mental health because I believe more is possible: more freedom, more wholeness, more peace. Our neurobiology is wired for change and the creation of new neural connections. The brain is constantly reshaping itself—for better or worse. Therapy supports this natural process by helping us do things differently: put words to our experiences, gain new perspectives, clarify our values, resolve conflicts, and heal.

“The brain is capable of change and growth throughout life. This is called neuroplasticity—and it means that past does not have to equal future.”
Daniel J. Siegel, MD

I’ve worked in this field for nearly a decade because I believe in hope. I believe people can change—if they want to. I’m honored to walk alongside those who are seeking more, and who are willing to do the courageous work of showing up for themselves in therapy. My aim is to meet your vulnerability with gentleness, curiosity, and empathy.

My approach is rooted in psychodynamic theory, which explores how unconscious experiences and early relationships shape how we think, feel, and relate today. This kind of deep exploration helps us understand how we became who we are. Gaining this insight can lead to increased self-compassion and new, healthier ways of relating to ourselves and others.

I’m a trauma-informed therapist, trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). “reprocessing” means helping the brain update how it stores traumatic memories, so they feel less distressing. EMDR can also support shifting from stuck, painful beliefs to more adaptive and empowering perspectives.

Depending on your needs, I may also integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). CBT focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that contribute to distress. ACT emphasizes mindful acceptance and helps you build a meaningful life aligned with your values.

If you’re seeking more, I invite you to take the first step and start the conversation.
